A hammock stand that fixes to the roof rack at one end and stands on telescoping legs at the other, so the hammock hangs off the side of the vehicle with no trees involved. Over twelve feet sits between the hang points, enough for a tall person to lie flat. It goes up in under a minute without tools and packs into a bag about the size of a folding camp chair.

/WHY IT IS HERE

Trees are the catch with a hammock. Beaches, desert and open camps rarely have two in the right place. The Outpost brings the second anchor with the vehicle.

It rides inside until camp rather than living on the roof, and it is lighter than a rooftop tent. Kammok designed it so several can mount to one vehicle for a group.

/KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY
  • The hammock is not included. The stand comes with two hanging straps and the stock mount kit. Kammok's Roo line, the Wallaby and most hammocks you already own hang from it.
  • It mounts to a roof rack, not a trailer hitch. Kammok call the rack joint a ball hitch. The stock kit fits most crossbars, baskets and platform racks, but Kammok say it is not universal. Check their rack compatibility guide before you order.
  • The rack has to sit 50 to 80 inches off the ground.
  • The stand is rated to 350 lb, less than the hammocks that hang from it. The stand sets the limit.
  • One person to sleep, one or two to lounge.
  • The crossbar works as a tarp ridgeline. Kammok advise hanging nothing heavier than a tarp or string lights from it.
  • 22 lb, and 52 inches long packed.
